India’s high commissioner to Pakistan spellbound after watching Beating Retreat ceremony

Indian High Commissioner to Pakistan, Ajay Bisaria on Sunday (January 21) called the Beating Retreat ceremony performed by the Indian paramilitary forces and Pakistan Rangers in Attari-Wagah border as energetic as a cricket match between the two arch-rivals.

The High Commissioner who came from New Delhi to northern Attari village was spellbound after watching the ceremony at the international border before crossing over to Islamabad, capital city of Pakistan and the place of his posting.

Bisaria said that both India and Pakistan were working towards a more peaceful and tranquil border region. There has been a spate in ceasefire violations in northern Jammu and Kashmir state where scores have been killed in the past week.

Reportedly, India has called in Pakistan’s deputy high commissioner on January 19 saying its soldiers had breached the 2003 truce over a 100 times in January alone.

India and Pakistan have faced off for decades across the LoC separating parts of Kashmir held by both countries. The old ceasefire line runs through a region that both countries claim in full but rule in part. Sporadic cross-border attacks in past months have frayed the 2003 truce.
