Kali Clougherty, 18, and her fellow classmates attracted attention with their forceful condemnations of elected leaders, the gun lobby. Clougherty and her classmates believe the government was responsible for allowing accused gunman Nikolas Cruz, who was known to have behavioral issues, to possess a weapon.
The group of nearly 100 students are planning to head to Florida’s state capitol to lobby for gun control regulations during the final three weeks of the state’s legislative session. Students are also planning to partake in an April 20 school walkout, in honor of the anniversary of the school shooting in Columbine, Co., and a March on Washington, D.C. on March 24.
