Pakistan envoy visits Sufi shrine in northwestern India

Elaborate security arrangements were made in and around the shrine keeping in view the high-profile visit. A group of regional musicians gave an enchanting performance in the presence of Mahmood.

The ‘Dargah’ of Sufi saint Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti is one of the most revered shrines of the country. Chisti, who preached tolerance and unity of all religions, died in Ajmer where his tomb has become a shrine for millions of people from around the world. Every year thousands of devotees from across the globe visit the shrine and offer fresh flowers as a symbol of their devotion.

India accuses Pakistan of training and arming militants and helping them infiltrate across the Line of Control that divides Kashmir. Pakistan denies those allegations. The South Asian neighbours have fought two of their three wars since independence in 1947 over Muslim-majority Kashmir, which they both claim in full but rule in part.
