Students in western India laugh their hearts out to commemorate world’s first laughter club

A physician, Dr. Madan Kataria, the founder of Laughter Yoga, which is a unique approach to well-being imbibing laughter as part of a complete workout, established the first laughter yoga club on March 13, 1995. The World Laughter Day was also initiated by him in 1998.

Laughter is the best medicine and the ability to laugh is probably unique to humans, said Laughter Yoga Instructor, Kamlesh Masalawala.

A large number of students who turned up for the session were seen enjoying every moment of the therapy as they giggled, chuckled, and hooted with laughter guided by Masalawala.

Laughter Yoga is a form of yoga involving prolonged voluntary laughter. Although not scientifically proven, it is said a good hearty laugh can bring about health benefits including, improving blood circulation, lowering stress, relieving pain, and strengthening body’s immune system, which can help fight off disease.
