Indian PM Modi meets US Defense Secretary Mattis in Singapore

Modi outlined his regional vision at the annual defense conference the day before, calling for equal access at sea and in the air all Asian countries, but avoided singling out China’s claims to the hotly contested South China Sea.

The Indian Prime Minister is visiting three countries in Southeast Asia this week as part of an “Act East” policy of strengthening relations in the region amid concern over China’s rising maritime influence, in particular in the disputed South China Sea.
