Protest in Manhattan as drumbeat of opposition to family separations grows

A large crowd gathered in Manhattan to protest the administration’s “zero tolerance” policy which has removed over 2,300 children from their parents since May.

The separations began after Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced in April that all immigrants apprehended while crossing the U.S.-Mexico border illegally should be criminally prosecuted.

The New York protest was small compared to the reportedly 1,000 people expected at a related protest in El Paso, Texas, near where a temporary ‘tent city’ is holding some of the children.

Nationwide protests against the family separations are planned for June 30.
