Relief operations gather pace in eastern India as Cyclone Titli weakens

Cyclone Titli left a trail of destruction behind on Thursday (October 11) as it killed at least five people, destroyed huts, uprooted trees, snapped telephone poles and power lines and left hundreds of thousands without electricity.

Officials in Odisha evacuated over 300,000 people from their homes, suspended operations at the port of Paradip and cancelled many trains and flights on Wednesday (October 10).

The Bay of Bengal often witnesses cyclones at this time of the year, with some causing widespread death and destruction. Odisha was hit last month by a low-intensity storm.
