Jeff Sessions Forced To Resign As Attorney General

Wednesday afternoon reports  rang in that the President asked Attorney General Jeff Sessions to resign from his position, shortly after Jeff Sessions released a letter to the white house Chief of Staff John Kelly which read “At your request, I am submitting my resignation.”

Matthew Whitaker, who was the chief of staff to Attorney General Jeff Sessions, will now take his place until the administration can find a permanent replacement.

Whitaker will also oversee the Russian investigation that has been going on for months now. Whitaker has expressed his disapproval of the investigation, criticizing how special counsel Robert Mueller has handled this tumultuous pursuit to find the truth.

“We are pleased to announce that Matthew G. Whitaker, Chief of Staff to Attorney General Jeff Sessions at the Department of Justice, will become our new Acting Attorney General of the United States. He will serve our Country well …We thank Attorney General Jeff Sessions for his service, and wish him well! A permanent replacement will be nominated at a later date,” Trump tweeted.

Some believe the decision was made because officials from the white house said the investigation has gone too far. Citing that Muller has “crossed the red line,” and his forceful exit could be sending a message to end the investigation as a whole.

At a news conference in Washington D.C Senate Democratic leader, Chuck Schumer of New York asked the newly appointed Attorney General to “recuse” himself from the investigation.

Democrats are now concerned about the amount of access special counsel Muller will have to continue his investigation.

“Protecting Mueller and his investigation is paramount” and it “would create a constitutional crisis if this were a prelude to ending or greatly limiting the Mueller investigation, “Schumer said.

A senior GOP congressional aide stated that Trump should not fire Mueller and if he did,

“He would be playing with fire,” the aide said.

“It is impossible to read Attorney General Sessions’ firing as anything other than another blatant attempt” by President Donald Trump “to undermine” and “end” the Mueller probe.” House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi of California said on Twitter.

NTV has learned that Counselor to the President Kellyane Conway asked Sessions to resign, although her husband said the move was “illegal” and any action Whitaker takes as Attorney General would be “Invalid.
