Multiple People Injured At Chicago Hospital Shooting

Multiple people have been shot near a Chicago hospital including a police officer.

A Chicago police officer along with several others have been wounded in an active shooter incident this afternoon at Mercy Hospital on the Near South Side.

The wounded officer is reported to be critical condition and Chicago police officials released a statement shortly after the shooting occurred.

“He is in critical condition but receiving excellent care,” said police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi “Please send your prayers.”

There have been reports that multiple victims have been shot, but as of now, there is no concrete number as to exactly how many.

To give some perspective, hospital employees were carrying out their normal routines when they heard a message over the loudspeaker asking them to lock their doors and shortly after they were being evacuated on to a bus away from the building.

I don’t know what happened,” says a hospital employee.

“They told us to run so we did,” said a nurse after the scene calmed down.
