Pence, India’s Modi discuss denuclearization of Korean peninsula

Pence expressed his gratitude towards India for supporting U.S.’s pressure campaign on North Korea and hoped to bring lasting peace in the Korean peninsula.

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un agreed in broad terms to work towards denuclearisation during an unprecedented June summit with U.S. President Donald Trump, but has failed to satisfy U.S. demands for irreversible steps to scrap its arsenal, including a full disclosure of nuclear weapons and facilities.

Modi, who is on a two-day visit to attend the ASEAN-India, East Asia Summit, and the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership Leaders’ meeting, also expressed his condolences for the victims of the California wildfires.

The wildfires have so far claimed 48 lives and incinerated more than 8,800 homes in northern California.
