Tips On How To Stay Safe While Black Friday Shopping

By Paige Hubbard

After families feasted and fellowshipped over Thanksgiving dinner, they geared up to hit the streets for some early doorbuster deals. Some folks even camped out before stores opened just so they could be at the front of the line to catch those first come first serve sales.

Lines were wrapped around the building, and their baskets were filled with big-name electronics, clothing and much more. However, with all of this shopping frenzy upon us, we all must remember safety is first.

Every year we have seen the horror stories how Black Friday shopping can lead to full-blown brawls and in some situations, people have even lost their lives. Although the sales are great nothing is worth the value of life.
Here are a few tips to keep you safe while participating in this year’s Black Friday shopping.

1. Wear a fanny pack or keep your purse close to you.
Not everyone has the same intentions when it comes to Black Friday shopping. Some folks come just to catch someone slipping so beware of the pickpocketers.

2. Don’t argue or fight over an item.
We all have seen this before when two people reach for the same item at the same time, and then you encounter that awkward stare down until one of you decides to be the bigger person. I know it may be easier said than done, but the truth of the matter is, it’s simply not worth fighting over. Just be the bigger person.

3. Be Aware Of Your Surroundings
Make sure you are looking around at all times to take inventory of what’s going on around you. This time of year robbers will watch target shoppers who have bought big items. So if this is you, be sure to always be on your P’s and Q’s about your environment. It may be good to take someone with you as well.

4. Park Your Car in a Well Lit Area.
This one is pretty self-explanatory, be sure to park your car in an area where you will be visible and seen, always remember, better safe than sorry.

5. Have Fun!
Honestly, what’s the point of doing it if can’t enjoy yourself this holiday season. Be safe, be alert, but most importantly enjoy yourself!

Happy Holiday’s!
