Houston Bangladesh association celebrates International Mother Language Day

By: Paige Hubbard

This past weekend the Houston Bangladesh association celebrated the international mother language day.

In November of 1999, the general conference of the United Nations proclaimed the 21st day of February as international mother language day. Decades later IMLD is still recognized to highlight the world’s cultural diversity.

The day aims to raise awareness of linguistic and cultural traditions based on understanding, tolerance, and dialog.

Organizations from all over gather to represent their respective languages and culture. Many prominent politicians and public figures were in attendance to show support and express how important it is to protect the right to speak your native language.
