Students march for education in New Delhi

India is witnessing an unemployment crisis, and the country’s general elections are just months away. But unemployment is just one of the issues protesters demanded to be addressed. Organizations and youth from across the country came together to protest the control of education, the security, and safety of women, as well as the country’s lack of jobs.

What was feared was proven only last week. A report, done by a government organization but not yet accepted by Modi’s government, shows that India’s unemployment rate has risen to a 45-year high of 6.1 percent. The figure is alarming in India – a country where 50 percent of the population is under the age of 25.
