Investigation team formed after factory explosion kills 47 in east China

Death toll had risen to 47 and 90 others were seriously injured after the explosion ripped through an industrial park that makes fertilizer on Thursday afternoon in Xiangshui County of Yancheng City in east China’s Jiangsu Province.

The blast sent a fireball and thick plumes of black smoke into the air.

By Friday afternoon, the fire had been put out, but the high density of benzene makes the core area still unreachable.

A total of 640 people are receiving medical treatment in hospitals. Among them, 32 are still in critical conditions and 58 others sustain severe injuries, according to the rescue headquarters.
