Senator Kamala Harris is one of over a dozen Democrats who has plans to take on president Donald Trump in next year’s election.
Over the weekend, she held a large rally at Texas Southern University as she continues her campaign.
Harris emerged as state attorney general for her state of California in 2010, a prominent political figure. In 2016 she became the second African-American woman and the first South Asian American to win a seat in the U.S Senate.
After declaring her candidacy, she has gained a lot of support from all over the United States.
Kamala Harris comes from a very diverse background. Her parents are immigrants and she says it has shaped her political outlook. Her mother is from India and her father is Jamaican. Harris was born and raised in Oakland California and often describes her mother as the most important influence on her life.
At her rally, people from all backgrounds gathered to support a candidate who looks most like what the democratic party ideology of what the next president should look like.
With so many Democrats running, it begs the question if Kamala Harris stands a chance against candidates like Beto O’Rourke, Senator Corey Booker from New Jersey and Elizabeth Warren from Massachusetts.
Although he hasn’t announced if he’d run yet, former vice president Joe Biden is among the top choices for Democrats.
