In Majuli island in the northeastern Assam state on Wednesday (April 10), officials collected various items and materials needed for the voting station they are in charged of, before setting up the voting booth.
About 900 million people are eligible to vote in the election, spread over seven phases in a month so that security forces can ensure a free and fair ballot at about a million polling stations.
More than 11 million government officials will travel by foot, road, special train, helicopter, boat, and sometimes elephant, to hold the election. Majuli island itself will play host to hundreds of polling stations.
Results will follow after vote-counting on May 23.
