Fans settle in for marathon ‘Game of Thrones’ screening at Deauville festival

Superfans of the blockbuster fantasy show have been watching all 73 episodes over seven days at a cinema in Deauville, with 57 people watching the final series on Saturday (September 14).

Local fan David Foellin said that he had watched all episodes of the saga’s first seven seasons at home but that he wanted to see the final season on the big screen.

“I’ve done everything to avoid spoilers for season eight, even though it’s really difficult to stay in the dark”, he told Reuters as he entered the marathon screening.

“Game of Thrones” star Sophie Turner was also in Deauville the previous weekend, to promote her new film “Heavy”.

Superfans had a difficult decision to make – whether to go to Turner’s public photo call on Deauville beach or stay in the cinema for the marathon screening, as viewers cannot re-enter after leaving.

Fans of the show in Normandy can also see another “Game of Thrones”- themed attraction in the town of Bayeux, which is now playing host to a “Game of Thrones”-themed tapestry modelled after the town’s iconic 11th-century Bayeux tapestry.

“Game of Thrones,” adapted from author George R. R. Martin’s epic fantasy saga, “A Song of Ice and Fire,” attracted record viewership figures worldwide and broke the record for most nominations at the Emmy Awards, with 32 nominations for its final season in 2019.
