Shots fired during Venezuela teachers protest

Venezuelan teachers were assembled in front of the country’s education ministry to demand higher wages when, according to local media, shots were fired by people driving by on motorcycles.

A group of counter protesters also confronted the teachers with skirmishes breaking out as the two groups threw punches.

Venezuela’s five-year economic crisis has left millions of people across the country with shortages of gas, petrol, food and medicine. President Nicolas Maduro’s government has used security forces to crack down on protesters.
