Video of the aftermath showed damages at an auto parts shop past midnight on Wednesday (September 11), with debris scattered across the road and fallen trees blocking traffic in the city of Sioux Falls.
The National Weather Service confirmed a tornado touched down in Sioux Falls in a tweet posted at 11:45 pm local time (0445GMT on September 11).
Police issued a no travel advisory into Sioux Falls due to fallen power lines. Local utility company Xcel Energy said on their website that the outages affected at least 7,000 customers. It was not immediately clear if there were reports of injuries following the storm.
