Dominicans break Guinness World Record in merengue

A new Guinness World Record for the largest number of partners dancing merengue was set in Santo Domingo on Sunday (November 03).

According to Guinness, more than 420 partners danced for over five minutes to break the record previously held by Russia.

Merengue has its origins in the Dominican Republic in the middle of the 19th century. In 2016, UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Science and Cultural Organization) declared traditional Dominican merengue music and dance an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
