The big balloons were blown up on Wednesday (November 27) ahead of the 93rd Annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.
Old-timers Pillsbury Doughboy will join newcomers Netflix’s Green Eggs and Ham and Love Flies Up to the Sky by Yayoi Kusama.
There are a total of five new characters this year
The organizers are also looking to celebrate history.
“Snoopy returning as an astronaut this year to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the moon landing… we have Smokey Bear, who’s celebrating his seventy fifth anniversary,” Susan Tercero, the executive director of the parade, told Reuters
Concern is high that the parade will be forced to be canceled as winds could be as bad as they were back in 1997, when a woman was struck by a float and sent into a coma.
“We have a lot of real time data that we’re analyzing along the route the entire time,” Tercero assured Reuters.
The march through Manhattan will also be joined by clowns, cheerleaders and marching bands to celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday.
Working on Thanksgiving eve, workers methodically inflated each big balloon with air. They did their work under nets to keep the balloons from flying away.
And of course, they were joined at the event by children looking on.
“It’s really colorful and cool,” Dylan, who was on hand with his family, told Reuters.
