Trump receives a warm welcome at Alabama football game

Crowds chanted “USA!” and stood to greet U.S. President Donald Trump as he arrived for the University of Alabama football game against Louisiana State University, in Tuscaloosa on Saturday (November 9).

Trump and his wife Melania waved to crowds quickly as they took their seats. Later in the first half of the game, the Trumps walked down to the railing and waved as spectators cheered and endeavored to take photos.

The warm reception was a stark contrast to the jeers Trump received as he attended a World Series baseball game between the Nationals and the Houston Astros in Washington.

Sitting nearby Trump was Republican U.S. Representative Bradley Byrne, who is expected to vie for the Republican nomination for Senate against the president’s former Attorney General Jeff Sessions.

Sessions, who was ousted as attorney general Trump last year, said on Thursday (November 7) he was seeking the 2020 Republican nomination for a U.S. Senate seat from Alabama, the position he resigned to join the Trump administration.

Trump forced out Sessions as head of the Justice Department last November after repeatedly criticizing his decision to recuse himself from the Russia probe.
