Sri Lanka FM denies Swiss embassy worker was abducted

Sri Lanka’s foreign minister on Wednesday (December 4) denied a Swiss embassy worker had been abducted in the country saying it was another “step of mis-information.”

The worker, who has had her travel abroad restricted until next Monday (December 9), alleged she was abducted and threatened to disclose sensitive embassy-related information on November 25, said the Swiss Embassy in a statement.

Speaking at a news conference in Colombo, Sri Lankan Foreign Minister Dinesh Gunewardene said that there was little truth in the allegation.

Gunewardene added that an investigation into the incident cannot proceed without a statement from the victim which had not been provided. Swiss authorities said that the victim is in poor health and is unable to do so.
