American Pets Alive! Names Fort Bend County Animal Services as A Top 5 Lifesaving Shelter Nationally in 2019

FORT BEND COUNTY, TEXAS- American Pets Alive!, a nationwide nonprofit pet rescue organization, names Fort Bend County Animal Services (FBCAS) as the fifth overall lifesaving shelter nationally. The top ten shelters selected by American Pets Alive! have embraced major changes and are becoming lifesaving leaders in their communities. Unlike private nonprofit shelters, public shelters like FBCAS must accept every animal that comes into their care.

Fort Bend County Judge KP George has made supporting animal welfare one of his top priorities. “To move Fort Bend Forward, we must continue improving the quality of life for all of our residents which includes our pets. I’m extremely proud of the great work and changes made by Fort Bend Animal Services to increase saving lives and helping every animal they encounter, whether they are injured, sick, or just lost,” stated County Judge George. “I have had the great pleasure of adopting my two rescue dogs, Rico and Beau, from Fort Bend Animal Services, and encourage all residents of our county to bring a forever friend into their home as well. The men and women of the department work hard every day to save as many animals as they can.”

“In 2018, FBCAS created a TNR/SNR program which in result saved so many cats that previously would have not been. FBCAS encourages thinking outside of the box and I enjoy working with this team!” said Faith Wright, American Pets Alive! Shelter Management Advisor.

Fort Bend County was nominated for its extremely successful Trap Neuter Return (TNR) and Shelter Neuter Return (SNR) programs, which have allowed Fort Bend County to save almost 2,000 cats in two years.
