Boil water update

HOUSTON – Mayor Sylvester Turner issued an update Friday morning regarding the massive water main break that took place yesterday morning.

On Thursday morning a major water main broke causing the entire East 610 Loop to be under approximately 8 feet of water and sewer debris. This also caused a large portion of commuters to be stalled in various sides of town and or to be detoured to longer routes home.

More than half of the residents of Houston were affected by this and were advised to boil water for the next 24 hours to avoid any contamination. Houston city officials say the waterline provides about 50% of Houstonians water supply.

HISD also closed down schools Friday morning.
