Man arrested in shooting at a family dance

HOUSTON, TX – A man has been taken into custody following a shooting on Sunday (Feb. 23) night in north Harris County, according to Harris County Sheriff’s Office. 

A man identified as 25-year-old Jose Manuel Guerrero-Reyes was detained at the scene and is believed to have shot several people at a family-friendly dance. 

The incident was reported around 7:41 p.m. at the Mercado Sabadomingo located at 8712 Airline Dr. Witnesses say Guerrero-Reyes appeared to be heavily intoxicated.

Seven people were shot in their legs and needed to be transported to the hospital for their injuries. According to deputies, there was a 30-year-old man, a 26-year-old woman, a 43-year-old woman, a 30-year-old man, a 26-year-old man, a 29-year-old man, and a 33-year-old man. 

Sheriff Gonzalez said that Reyes claimed his gun was in his pocket and accidentally went off. Investigators attempted to find validity in his story, but the evidence did not match his claim.

Guerrero-Reyes has been charged with aggravated assault and his bond was set to $40,000.
