Over 78,000 confirmed coronavirus cases reported globally with over 2,400 deaths: WHO

Globally, a total of 78,810 people had been infected with the novel coronavirus in 29 countries and 2,462 had died as of 10:00 Feb 23 Central European Time, according to the World Health Organization. 

Among the total confirmed cases, 1,769 are from 28 countries outside of China. 

On Saturday, 1,016 new cases were reported globally, including 367 outside of China. And 103 new deaths were reported that day, including six outside of China. 

Iran’s health ministry raised Sunday the death toll from the new virus to eight people in the Middle Eastern country, and there were now 43 confirmed cases of the illness in Iran.
