Houston, TX. – On Monday afternoon, five minors were seen joyriding in a stolen vehicle that ultimately resulted in a major three-vehicle crash accident, leaving an elderly woman in critical condition.
Dekendrick Spears, an off-duty HPD officer was on his way to pick up his daughter up from daycare when he noticed the car full of minors.
“The driver noticed and he looked shocked.”
This prompted Spears to not only call in the truck plates but to follow the truck. Authorities confirmed it was stolen.
The kids began to flee through the Briar Forest neighborhood near Seagler Rd and Briar Forest.
They hit a Lexus, driven by an elderly woman and a Tundra truck with a woman and her child inside.
Upon capturing them, they discovered the driver was 14-years old, and the other four passengers were ages 11 and 13.
Sean Teare, the Chief of Vehicular Crimes Division said,
“When you mix young kids and cars, you rarely have good outcomes.”
Teare confirmed that the 14-year old driver will face charges of aggravated assault and the unauthorized use of motor vehicle.
