HOUSTON – The Houston police are investigating a fatal shooting in southwest Houston Thursday night. Police say the man responsible for the shooting says it was self-defense.
The shooting happened around 10:40 p.m. at the Houston Sportsplex on S. Main St. Investigators say a large fight broke out in the parking lot following a softball game. At some point during the altercation, the suspect retrieved his gun and opened fire.
Police said the 32-year-old victim had to be transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
The shooter remained at the scene and told police he acted out of self-defense.
There were about 300 people at the scene at the time of the shooting including children. Investigators are hoping someone has cell phone footage of the incident to use for evidence.
