Lebanon’s former health and justice ministers said on Monday (August 10) that it was a responsibility to step down after Prime Minister Hassan Diab announced his government’s resignation.
A powerful Beirut port explosion last week sparked public uproar against the country’s leaders and prompted demonstrations across the city, demanding root-and-branch change.
Diab made the announcement following a cabinet meeting on Monday afternoon.
For many ordinary Lebanese, the explosion was the last straw in a protracted crisis over the collapse of the economy, endemic corruption, waste, and dysfunctional governance.
