HOUSTON, TX – Harris County medical examiners confirm the body of a little girl who was found in a Houston bayou last week was that of a 2-year-old Maliyah Bass.
On August 22, Bass was reported missing by her family members from inside the Sunset Crossing apartment complex courtyard after she was left alone briefly.
The following day, a jogger spotted the body in Brays Bayou in an area southeast of the University of Houston that is about 17 miles (27 kilometers) west of Maliyah’s home. The bayou runs within a mile of the apartment complex, police said.
Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo says he suspects foul play was involved and authorities will approach the case as a murder investigation.
An autopsy report to reveal the exact cause of death is still pending.
No arrests have been made as of yet.
