A local Chicago activist known as the ‘Dreadhead Cowboy’ was arrested on Monday (September 21) afternoon and is facing multiple charges after he rode his horse down the Dan Ryan Expressway causing traffic during rush hour.
According to a statement issued by Illinois State Police, Adam Hollingsworth, who has become popular in the city for riding his horse during a number of protests and events, was arrested by state troopers and charged with reckless conduct, disobeying a police officer, and criminal trespass to state-supported property without incident.
Prior to his arrest, the 33-year-old Hollingsworth had posted a Facebook Live video showing him on horseback accompanied by a motorcycle escort as he said “Kids Lives Matter”.
Media reports, quoting police, said troopers found several injuries to the horse with the animal bleeding from the left hoof, a right hoof injury and sores caused by the saddle.
The issued statement said the horse is “temporarily quartered” with Animal Care and Control where officials will perform further assessment of the animal for more injuries. The statement adds that additional charges are pending due to ongoing investigations.
