Sushi restaurant owner Masanori Sugiura has spruced up his sluggish business amid the coronavirus epidemic by sending out his macho friends to deliver the goods to customers–topless.
Dubbed “Delivery Macho,” the 41-year-old sushi chef and competition bodybuilder said that the service has drawn in about 1.5 million yen ($14,125) per month since it started in late May.
Sugiura recruited six of his friends who worked at fitness gyms as sushi delivery staff, as many of them were out of work during the pandemic.
Upon delivery, the men strip off their shirts and pose for photos while maintaining social distance with their customers–all for a minimum of 7,000 yen ($66) spent per order.
The gimmick has gone viral on social media, and according to Sugiura, his restaurant receives about 10 orders a day on average.
