Gov. Greg Abbott to possibly deploy the Texas National Guard on Election Day

AUSTIN, TX – Gov. Greg Abbott announced plans to possibly deploy the Texas Army National Guard across the state of Texas including the city of Houston on Election Day.

His decision will be made on an “as-needed basis” in the event there are any protests following the election.

“Our job is to make sure that cities are going to be safe, and along those lines, we want to make sure that in any event there are any protests after the elections are concluded, that we will have adequate personnel in place to make sure that we will be able to address any protests that could turn into riots,” Abbott said.

Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo spoke on his decision saying the city shouldn’t need troops, as the department expects to have all hands on deck over the next few weeks.
