Daily COVID-19 cases surge past 200,000 in U.S.

The United States has registered more than 200,000 COVID-19 infections over the past 24 hours, the 25th day in a row that the country sees more than 100,000 coronavirus infections in a day, according to data from Johns Hopkins University on Saturday.

The country recorded 205,557 coronavirus cases over the last day. The data may include that from both Thursday and Friday as Saturday marked the Thanksgiving Day, an annual national holiday in the U.S., when many states did not report their infections.

The national tally of the coronavirus infections in the U.S. reached 13,137,092, and the U.S. death toll from the disease increased to 265,146, as of 12:25 Eastern Standard Time on Saturday.
