South Africa’s cricket team landed in Karachi on Saturday (January 16) ahead of their first tour of Pakistan in 14 years.
South Africa have not toured the country since 2007, following a militant attack on the Sri Lanka team bus in Lahore in 2009 that killed six policemen and two civilians and starved the cricket-mad nation of hosting tours for six years.
Led by wicketkeeper-batsman Quinton de Kock and coached by former keeper Mark Boucher, the visitors are reported to receive security afforded to heads of state during a series comprising of two Tests, the first starting on Jan. 26, and three T20 Internationals.
The team will enter a period of quarantine until the results of the first round of COVID testing are released before training in a ground adjacent to their hotel and playing in an intra-squad match.
