HOUSTON – Houston Police Department units responded to reports of a suicidal man with a knife on Sunday (Jan 17) morning.
The incident happened in the 5900 block of Guhn Road. Arriving units located an adult male armed with a knife on the second floor of a motel. Investigators said the man was suffering from a mental health crisis.
When officers arrived he threatened them and told them, if they come up he will kill them. At some point, he also yelled at police to shoot him.
SWAT officers were called in to set up a perimeter and a negotiation team made an attempt to de-escalate the situation.
After a short time, the man threw down the knife and surrendered.
Police say due to his mental condition he will not face charges and an evaluation is underway.
