Zurich on Friday (January 15) turned into a wintry postcard come to life as heavy snowfall cloaked the Swiss city’s trees, buildings and bridges in white.
Around 35 centimetres (13 inches) of snow was expected to fall on Zurich on Friday, according to government weather service Meteo Suisse, while elsewhere in the German-speaking part of Switzerland, snowfall was forecast to reach up to 50 centimetres.
However, the frosty episode caused delays in public transport and hassles for drivers who found their vehicles buried in snow.
Police also set up perimeters around trees to protect pedestrians from falling branches because of the heavy snow buildup.
