Four skiers dead, four injured in Utah avalanche

Four skiers were killed and four others rescued after an avalanche in Millcreek Canyon near Salt Lake City, Utah, on Saturday (February 6), authorities said.

According to Sgt. Melody Cutler, a public information officer with the Unified Police Department of Salt Lake City, rescue efforts were underway after the four survivors were able to dig themselves out of the snow and call 911.

Cutler told the media that the skiers, in their 20s and 30s, were in two groups – one group of five and one group of three.

NBC reported that the survivors suffered minor injuries, including hypothermia.

The Utah Avalanche Center, in a tweet, urged the public to avoid the accident site as recovery efforts continued.
