The daughters of Diego Maradona gave statements on their father’s final days to police in Argentina on Friday (February 26), as authorities investigate the soccer star’s death.
Maradona died of a heart attack late last year after undergoing brain surgery in November for a blood clot. Authorities are investigating any possible negligence in the 60-year-old’s death.
Maradona’s doctor Leopoldo Luque and psychiatrist Agustina Cosachov have been under investigation. Recently, nurses Dahiana Gisela Madrid and Ricardo Almiron as well as psychologist Carlos Diaz have been added to a list of suspects and are reportedly cooperating with authorities.
Two sources close the case, who declined to be named, have told Reuters “doctors are the main ones being targeted by the prosecution” for Maradona’s death. The probe was looking at possible wrongful death and medical negligence, they said.
According to local media, reports of alcohol and drug use in Maradona’s final days were given to police.
Maradona was regarded as one of the greatest soccer players of all time. He had battled alcohol and drug addiction for much of his life.
