Texans in the city of Arlington lined up to receive their coronavirus inoculations at a mass vaccination center on Friday (February 12).
First responders administered the vaccine to residents at the Esports Stadium and Expo Center which has been used as a vaccination site since late December, with local media reporting that some 50,000 vaccines have been administered there so far.
Arlington Mayor Jeff Williams was part of a group of mayors and governors invited to the White House on Friday where they met with President Joe Biden to discuss his $1.9 trillion coronavirus relief plan.
The White House summit came as public health officials in the administration readied new guidelines for reopening schools across the U.S.
Williams, who met with Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen virtually last week, said his city urgently needs the federal aid earmarked for state and local governments in Biden’s rescue plan.
Biden on Thursday (February 11) said the U.S. coronavirus death toll was likely to reach 500,000 next month, but said the United States was on track to have enough vaccine for 300 million Americans by the end of July.
