Three people were killed and two others were hurt after a shooting at a gun store in a suburb of New Orleans on Saturday (February 20).
Several law enforcement agencies were on the scene of the shooting at the Jefferson Gun Outlet in Metairie, Louisiana.
While investigators are piecing together what happened, Jefferson Parish Sheriff Joseph Lopinto said, “We had one initial shooter here at the scene who hit two victims inside the location. Both of them have been pronounced deceased here at this location.” The initial shooter is also among the dead, the sheriff said.
Lopinto added other people inside the shop also opened fire in response to the shooting.
“I have multiple shooters here at this location that were either customers, employees or individuals here at the location.”
Two other people were shot, but should recover from their injuries.
Metairie is about five miles (eight kilometers) from New Orleans’ famous French Quarter.
