First lady plants tree on Arbor Day

First lady Jill Biden celebrated Arbor Day on Friday (April 30) by planting a tree on the White House North Lawn.

On a windy Washington day, she shoveled dirt onto the tree while joking, “Who doesn’t plant trees in high heels?”

The tree is a Linden tree that replaces one removed last month that was deemed a risk.

Arbor Day in the United States began in 1872 with the planting of one million trees in Nebraska.
