HOUSTON – Recent reports indicate Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner could be facing a reduction in his authority after a group collectively gains 35,000 signatures requesting his power be limited.
The Houston Chronicle reported the group represents a coalition of Houston firefighters union, the Harris County Republican Party, and the Houston chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America.
They also noted that if the referendum reaches the ballot, voters would have a chance to decide whether Turner’s authority should be scaled back, and City Council power enhanced.
