Messi’s record breaking boots for £125,000

The boots Lionel Messi wore to score his 644th Barcelona goal have been sold at auction for £125,000, with the money going to charity.

Messi broke the record for the amount of goals scored for one club with the strike against Real Valladolid on December 22 last year.

The boots were given by Messi to the Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya, which in turn auctioned them, with the money benefitting the Arts and Health Project of the Val Hebron University Hospital in Barcelona.

London auction house Christie’s conducted the online auction, and say the winning bid is a world record for a pair of game-worn football boots.
