Crane removes train carriage from collapse site in Mexico City

A crane was seen removing a train carriage from the site of a collapsed railway overpass on Tuesday (May 4) as rescue workers continued to search for survivors and clear the area of debris.

At least 23 people were killed when a train on Mexico City’s newest metro line plunged onto a busy road on Monday night (May 3). At least 79 have been injured in the accident, including three children.

Survivors were taken to nearby hospitals in the south of the capital, city authorities said.

The crash has raised questions about safety on one of the world’s busiest metro systems, which spreads across an urban sprawl home to over 20 million people.

Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador said that an investigation should be done quickly and that nothing should be hidden from the public.
