Search for suspect underway after off-duty officer shot, injured in west Houston

HOUSTON – A Houston police officer got injured after a gunman shot him in west Houston Sunday.

Houston police confirmed the wounded officer’s identity as John Brown, 33, who is an 8-year veteran, working in the homicide division.

According to HPD police chief Troy Finner, Brown was working an extra job at Market View Apartments on Pine Lakes Drive at about 10:30 p.m. Sunday.

He said officer Brown observed a male looking very suspicious on the property and approached the man to exchange words with him. As the officer attempted to grab the suspect’s hand, the suspect fired multiple shots striking the officer twice in the leg.

Brown was moved to the hospital where he was treated for wounds. He was released from the hospital before 4 a.m.

Houston Police Department has launched investigation to trace the suspect.
