Suspects open fire on HPD officer driving by in his patrol vehicle

HOUSTON – Around three suspects are on the loose after opening fire on a Houston police officer who was sitting in his patrol vehicle.

The police officer was ambushed around 1:18 a.m. Friday near Minetta Street in southwest Houston.

According to HPD, the officer was in his patrol car after conducting a traffic stop. Meanwhile, possibly three male suspects came Haviland Park and fired multiple shots at the officer.

Police said the officer’s car was hit three times. As he retaliated, the suspects ran back toward the park. 

Authorities said the officer remained unhurt in the shooting.

Investigators have set up a perimeter to locate the men involved in the shooting.
