Washington Nationals baseball game spectators dash for exit after gunshots are heard

Fans hurried to leave a professional baseball game in Washington on Saturday (July 17) night after the game was suspended due to a shooting outside.

Ben Dietderich who was at the stadium said he heard about 10 shots.

“It took a few seconds for people to recognize it was a gun then people started running, mothers go on top of their children,” he said.

The District of Columbia’s Metropolitan Police Department had earlier said on Twitter that two people were shot outside of the ballpark.

It later said in a follow-up tweet that “two additional victims associated with the incident walked into area hospitals for treatment of gunshot wounds.”

The shooting occurred in the sixth inning.
