Baby rescued from knife-wielding father in SE Houston

HOUSTON – Houston police have rescued a baby from a man who was going through mental health crisis in southeast Houston.

Initially, HPD officers responded to reports of a man assaulting his wife at 7227 Willis Drive.

When officers arrived at the location, they spotted a male in a mental crisis holding a knife and his child.

Officers surrounded the suspect and began to communicate with him to let the child go.

The suspect eventually threw the knife away and surrendered before the authorities.

Officers said the baby remained unhurt in the incident. 

The man was taken into custody and transported to a local hospital to be checked out.
